An interesting read, via Political Wire. Johnson has been lambasted for so long about Vietnam, but people tend to forget his sweeping domestic policies. His initiatives include Medicare, the Clean Air Act, public broadcasting, the National Endowment for the Humanities, Head Start, the requirements for seatbelts, and warnings on cigarette packs.
That’s nothing to sneeze at, especially in today’s political climate where it seems like nothing of import ever gets done, or even when an important law is passed, it’s a sad, watered down version of its former bill self.
We’ll see how this goes.
